The seventeenth edition of STEREOLETO, which will be held on June 10th and 11th, this year will take place at the ARTPLAY Design Center, which opened on Okhta. The festival presents an updated concept: a new space, unexpected headliners, new names of the Russian and world music scene as well as works by contemporary artists, an extensive gastronomic program and much, much more.
If you suddenly forget how to smile, then listen to Milky Chance. Milky Chance are childhood friends: vocalist and guitarist Clemens Rebain, DJ and producer Philip Dausch and guitarist Antonio Greger. Their music is unlikely to be tied to one genre or style. They famously mix indie, reggae, folk, jazz and so on. Listening to them is like a remedy against boredom. Milky Chance is from the small German city of Kassel. In 2013 they were thrown into the spotlight with their first single “Stolen dance”. In several countries, the track soared to first place in the music charts. Thanks to their new hits from their debut album “Sadnecessary” and then the largest world festivals – Glastonbury, Coachella and Lollapalooza, they immediately took the world by storm. In 2017, Milky Chance released their second studio album “Blossom” and was yet again a great success. Young people on beaches all around the world danced to the main hit “Cocoon” and on YouTube, the clip collected more than 17 million views. One could say that this is unobtrusive pop music, but it is undoubtedly very energetic, danceable and downright loveable – in a word, the ideal music for the summer heat.
The British rock band Franz Ferdinand is difficult to place in a specific genre: they play indie rock, post-punk-revival, dance punk and even art-rock. The band was formed in 2002 by Alex Kapranos, soloist, keyboard player, guitarist and future bandleader. Back then, the band rehearsed and arranged free concerts in an abandoned warehouse in Glasgow, which they exquisitely called Chateau (Castle). Their debut album Franz Ferdinand collected a lot of awards and made it to the top of the world’s music charts. After this, FF simply became the best rock band of the 2000s, even though Kapranos believes that they only play pop music because if tens of thousands of people stamp their feet at a concert, it’s already “pop.” Franz Ferdinand carefully work on their covers – it’s curious that the creation of the cover for the second album “You could have it so much better” was inspired by the work of the famous Russian avant-garde photographer Alexander Rodchenko and in particular the image of Lily Brick. In 2015, the band teamed up with the American band Sparks and under the name FFS, the project travelled around the world.
Now Franz Ferdinand is back in the ranks and preparing a new album “Always Ascending”, which, according to the musicians, will completely upset previous ideas about them. From an abandoned Scottish “castle” the group stole the spotlight of the world’s leading stages and, it seems, is once again ready to conquer new heights. Franz Ferdinand creates a cocktail of dance, punk and rock music their fans are happy to drink and now it’s time to add new ingredients.
Ilya Bortniuk, general producer of STEREOLETO: “The festival STEREOLETO has never been afraid to experiment. With platforms, styles and scenes. We are not afraid of change. We spent 10 years at the Stereoleto festival in the Central Park of Culture and Sport, we like this place, this park: we are the first who organized and held the festival there. However, this year we decided to reboot and try something new and we believe that this will give the festival a new twist in development. It will pleasantly surprise its guests. If dreams come true, they happen at STEREOLETO.”
